INTRODUCTION - Introduction to child safety training and the topic of child sexual abuse. This section will grab the attention of the viewer with startling statistics, common misconceptions, and critical facts revealed.
MODULE 1 - Definitions of child abuse including physical injury other than by accidental means, sexual abuse, neglect, and emotional abuse. Understand the damaging psychological effects of abuse, and zero-tolerance policies.
MODULE 2- Learn the most common characteristics of a child sexual predator with Dr. Leigh Baker, a clinical psychologist and Director of the Trauma Treatment Center of Colorado. Understand the lures and ways a predator finds and grooms his or her next victim.
MODULE 3 - Recognize behaviors and signs of an abused child and what to do if you suspect abuse with Dr. Lisa Spector, a Pediatrician specializing in child abuse with Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, MO. Dr. Spector shares the most important warning signs of an abused child. Reduce the risk of sexual abuse by learning appropriate and inappropriate touch and behaviors when dealing with children, including the Top 10 Nevers.
MODULE 4 - Know what to do if you suspect abuse. Detective Shawn Cronce, Douglas County Specials Unit Internet Crimes Against Children tells of how internet predators are the new stranger danger and when to report an incident and to which authorities. Understand State reporting requirements and mandates that impact you if you work or volunteer with kids. Know and adhere to good safety policies for group activities and sleepaway camps.
FIRST AID (optional) - Know basic first aid with Dr. Greg Canty, ER doctor and orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine. Keeping kids safe is always a top priority. However, when something does happen, be sure you know your organization’s protocol of how to treat the injury and whom to call. Dr. Canty will share what to do when minor injuries occur, including some cuts, scrapes, bruises, and fractures, and how these can be handled with simple care techniques. Whether on a field or in a playroom, learn how to create a safe play space for kids in your organization. Additional Charge.
Test/Certificate Total time spent on Parts 1 - 4 is approximately 75 minutes. The 25 question test for certification takes about 7-10 minutes. A score of 80% or better is required to pass, then print your certificate. First Aid is about 15 minutes long and is optional if your organization would like to learn more about basic first aid for children and sports injury prevention and treatment.
