This introductory section sets the foundation for understanding child sexual abuse and child maltreatment. Participants are immediately engaged with:

This section emphasizes that child safety is a shared responsibility and prepares learners for the deeper material that follows.

Module 1: Understanding the Types of Child Abuse

Learn the recognized definitions of child abuse, including:

• Physical abuse (injury other than by accidental means)

• Sexual abuse

• Neglect

• Emotional abuse

Participants gain insight into the long-term psychological and emotional effects of abuse and the importance of zero-tolerance child safety policies within organizations.

Module 2: Understanding the Child Sexual Predator

This module explores the most common characteristics of child sexual predators and how they operate. Participants will learn:

• How predators identify vulnerable environments

• Grooming behaviors and manipulation tactics

• The subtle lures used to gain trust and access to children

Understanding these behaviors is essential to preventing abuse before it occurs.

Module 3: Recognizing the Signs of Child Abuse

This module teaches participants how to:

• Recognize behavioral, emotional, and physical warning signs of abuse

• Respond appropriately if abuse is suspected

• Understand appropriate versus inappropriate touch

• Learn the Top 10 “Nevers” when interacting with children

Module 4: What to Do If You Suspect Abuse

This action-focused module explains:

• Why online predators are today’s “new stranger danger”

• When and how to report suspected abuse

• Whom to report to and why timing matters

• State-mandated reporting requirements

• Best-practice safety policies for group activities and sleepaway camps

Participants gain clarity and confidence in responding correctly to concerning situations.

Optional Module: Basic First Aid for Children and Youth Activities

This optional module covers:

• Treating common minor injuries such as cuts, scrapes, bruises, and minor fractures

• Understanding your organization’s injury response protocol

• When to treat, when to escalate care, and whom to call

• Creating safer play and activity spaces for children

Optional Module: Preventing Bullying

This optional bullying prevention training equips adults with tools to recognize, prevent, and respond to bullying behaviors.

Participants will learn:

• The difference between bullying and normal conflict

• Types of bullying, including verbal, physical, social, and cyberbullying

• How power imbalances contribute to bullying behavior

• Warning signs a child may be involved in bullying

• Effective intervention and prevention strategies

• How strong policies and adult response reduce harm

Certification, Testing, and Time Commitment

• Total time for Modules Introduction–Module 4 is approximately 75 minutes

• The certification test includes 25 questions and takes about 7–10 minutes

• A score of 80 percent or higher is required to pass

• Certificates are available for immediate download upon completion

The optional First Aid module is approximately 15 minutes and the Preventing Bullying module (11 minutes) may be added individually or bundled.
